Every year from April 11–17, Black Maternal Health Week (BMHW) — created by the Black Mamas Matter Alliance — amplifying the voices of Black Mamas and centers the values and traditions of the reproductive and birth justice movements. It is a week of awareness, advocacy, and unapologetic celebration.

This is our second year bringing it home. Mamas Mosaic Collective has partnered once again with Athens' most passionate community leaders and organizations to build a week of programming that reflects everything Black mothers in Athens deserve — space to be seen, supported, celebrated, and restored. From in-person events to virtual conversations, this week has something for every season of motherhood.

Sat Apr 11th- Black Maternal Joy: A Portrait Event

We are kicking off BMHW with 2nd annual Black Maternal Joy event. it is a FREE community event to celebrate the magic of Black motherhood through beautiful "Mom and Me" portraits. This event is hosted at the Taylor-Grady House. Come ready to smile and be celebrated.

Sat Apr 11th- Mamas Night Out

Grab your friends. Pull out your little black dress, Mama, we are celebrating you. Join Taneisha Brooks, Leader of the Shades of Strength peer-support group, on the opening night of Black Maternal Health Week for an evening out. We will meet at Urban Fare around 7 pm. After, we are heading to the Morton theatre for the RNB karaoke event. Just Black mothers in Athens showing up for themselves and each other.

Sun Apr 12th- Mamas Mosaic Monthly Meeting

Our monthly gatherings provide a safe and supportive space for Black mothers to connect, reflect, and nurture their mental and emotional well-being. Each session offers guided conversation, shared stories, and moments of reflection designed to remind you that you are not alone on this journey. Whether you come to share, to listen, or to be held in community, you are welcome here.

What would it feel like to give yourself full, unqualified permission to joy? Therapist and Push Thru Therapy founder Keisha Reaves joins Mamas Mosaic Collective for an intimate virtual conversation on Black maternal mental health — unpacking the struggles, exploring real interventions, and making space for the joy that has always been ours. Fri Apr 17th- Guided Reflection & Journaling

You made it through a full week of showing up — for your community, for conversations, for yourself. Now it's time to sit with it. Close out Black Maternal Health Week with a guided journaling experience designed to help you reflect on the week, process what moved you, and put pen to paper in the most personal way.
